Pool Salt Chart: Pounds of Salt by Pool Size

Use this pool salt chart to estimate pounds of salt for common swimming pool sizes and ppm increases. It uses the same gallons x ppm x 0.00000834 formula as the pool salt calculator.

Common values for quick planning.

These values are for planning and checking mental math. Use the matching calculator when your pool size, product strength, target range, or current test reading differs.

How to use it

Treat chart numbers as a first pass.

Pick the closest pool size, check the matching column, then compare that number with your current test result and product label. If the adjustment is large, use the calculator and add in stages.

Pool volume errors multiply every chemical estimate. If the pool size is uncertain, use the volume calculator before relying on a dosing chart.

Reference FAQ

How to use this chart without overcorrecting.

Use chart values to orient the next step, then rely on fresh test results, calculator inputs, and product labels before adding chemicals.

Is this pool salt chart a replacement for the calculator?

No. The chart is a quick reference for common pool sizes and ppm increases. Use the calculator when your current salt reading, target, bag size, or price differs.

Why do the numbers not exactly match a bag count?

The chart shows pounds of salt. Bag counts depend on whether you buy 25 lb, 40 lb, or another bag size, and shopping counts usually round up.

Should I add the full chart amount at once?

For most pools, add a staged amount, circulate, brush salt off the floor, and retest before adding the rest.

What if my salt reading is already high?

Do not use the add-salt chart. Confirm the reading and use dilution guidance instead.
