Use pool gallons, current free chlorine, target free chlorine, and product strength. The calculator estimates liquid chlorine gallons or granular chlorine pounds for the ppm increase.
About 0.1 gallon of 10% liquid chlorine raises 10,000 gallons by roughly 1 ppm. One full gallon raises 10,000 gallons by about 10 ppm.
Only use plain, unscented bleach without splashless additives, fragrances, thickeners, or cleaners. Enter the actual sodium hypochlorite percentage from the label.
Do not add more chlorine for that target. Keep the pump running, avoid extra dosing, and retest until free chlorine returns to the appropriate range.
CYA does not change the ppm dose formula, but it changes the target free chlorine range many pool owners use. Higher CYA often requires a higher free chlorine target.

Cal-hypo adds available chlorine and also adds calcium to the water. If calcium hardness is already high or scale is a concern, repeated cal-hypo use deserves extra caution and retesting.
Trichlor and other tablets dissolve over time, so they are better for feed-rate planning than for an immediate free chlorine ppm raise. Liquid chlorine or a labeled granular product is easier to calculate for a same-day correction.
